In a recent address, Prime Minister Keir Starmer took a hardline stance to limit the scale and influence of the event, sparking fierce debates over freedom of speech and border control policies.

Entry Bans for International Speakers

The most significant highlight of Prime Minister Starmer’s “reset speech” was his direct targeting of the May 16 protest. The British Prime Minister accused the march of being planned to “confront and intimidate this diverse city and nation.”

Starmer declared that the Labour administration would take measures to prevent “far-right agitators” from traveling to the UK to participate in the event. “We will not allow people to come to the United Kingdom to intimidate communities and sow hatred on our streets. This is nothing less than a fight for the soul of the nation,” he emphasized.

According to reports from the protest organizers, this declaration resulted in four international speakers—who were scheduled to address “Unite the Kingdom”—having their Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) revoked and being banned from entering the UK on the grounds that their presence was “not conducive to the public good.”

Reaction from Tommy Robinson and the Right Wing

Downing Street’s move met with a fierce reaction from Tommy Robinson. In two response videos, Robinson accused the Starmer administration of a double standard: “They can’t stop rapists, terrorists, jihadists… but they stop journalists coming to report on our event because they don’t want the world to see it.”

Robinson urged his supporters to remain peaceful and avoid being provoked. He stressed the importance of not giving the government or the media an excuse to label them as “thugs” or “extremists.” Organizers assert that the May 16 rally will be a “peaceful celebration of British cultural and Christian identity” and hope to attract a massive turnout to oppose the Prime Minister’s policies.
