Nigel Farage has demanded a snap general election if Sir Keir Starmer is ousted. The Prime Minister is clinging to power in the wake of Labour’s local election drubbing and the Mandelson scandal.

Dozens of Labour MPs have called for him to set out a timetable for his departure. Wes Streeting quit the Cabinet earlier this month and Andy Burnham is widely expected to challenge Sir Keir’s leadership if he wins the Makerfield by-election.

Asked whether a snap election should be held if Labour changed leader, Mr Farage told The Telegraph: “Yes. The public have had enough of prime ministers constantly changing.”

There is no requirement for a general election to take place if there is a change in 10 Downing Street.

Both the Tories and Labour have switched leaders while in office without calling a ballot.

Mr Farage’s demand comes as Reform is consistently leading national opinion polls.

Meanwhile, the PM has come under criticism from former prime minister Sir Tony Blair, who accused him of having no plan to fix Britain.

The Labour grandee launched a scathing attack on the Government’s record in a 5,700-word essay.

Sir Tony said: “The Government’s principal problem isn’t Keir’s personality. Or a failure to communicate ‘our achievements’. Or a need to assert more strongly Labour’s ‘values’.

“It is because we don’t have a worked-out, coherent plan for the country in a fast-changing world and are in the wrong political position from which we can devise one and win a second term.”
