GB News issued a news alert as Alex Armstrong shared the front pages for The Sunday Telegraph and the Observer, which both declared that Prime Minister Keir Starmer is set to announce his resignation on Monday, with the host sharing the headlines.

It comes just hours after Armstrong declared he believes there will be another general election soon. It comes after former Mayor for Greater Manchester Andy Burnham won the Makerfield by-election and landed a role as an MP, sparking speculation he will move to oust Prime Minister Keir Starmer. On air, Armstrong said: “A snap general election is coming very soon, mark my words. Andy Burnham is, of course, now reportedly staging a coup against Keir Starmer and his own government’s agenda. Burnham, who is set to steal the top job, didn’t, of course, stand under the current Labour manifesto.

“That is the reality. And now he’s marching towards number 10 to oust the most unpopular Prime Minister in history. Well, if Burnham is coronated, which I think is very likely, and becomes Prime Minister, what authority will he have, though?

“How can he ask his own Labour MPs to walk through the division lobby to vote on policies that they weren’t even elected on? What authority does he have with you, the public, to carry out his agenda? It would be nothing short of an authoritarian coup, would it? A Prime Minister and an agenda voted in by 0.03% of the British population.”

Armstrong continued: “And let’s be honest, he does need a mandate, a general election, given he is clearly going to rip things up and start again. But this might not be bad news for Labour. Hear me out, because I predict Burnham’s going to see a nice honeymoon bounce because he simply isn’t Keir Starmer.

“It’s not going to last very long, though, in my opinion. Gordon Brown made the same mistake during his honeymoon period, and that led inevitably to his demise just a couple of years later. But why is this the right time for Andy Burnham to call a general election? Well, as you know, the right of British politics is currently in disarray.”

Rumours are flying that Starmer could be set to resign as PM as early as Monday as he faces growing pressure from Labour MPs to step aside.
