If anybody expected anything different then they’ve not been paying attention.

Andy Burnham

The Burnham betrayal begins. Specifically with the next Labour PM running scared of Nigel Farage. The new Makerfield MP seems fearful of calling a snap election to actually get some kind of legitimacy and endorsement for ripping up Sir Keir Starmer’s 2024 manifesto. What a hyoocrite! this is the same Andy Burnham would went online a few years back to ‘demand’ the Tories call a general election after they kept chopping and changing leaders.

But isn’t this exactly what we should expect from the man who U-turns on everything? After all, having initially warned against Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood’s plan to extend the time it takes an immigrant to get permanent residency from five to 10 years, Burnham seemed to back her.

Now – with Downing Street in his sights – he’s set to water down Mahmood’s plans. Then again this guy has defended the rights of trans women to use female bathrooms only to backtrack on that.

The same Andy Burnham also expressed strong support for rejoining the EU, only to water that down when he contested the Brexit-voting Makerfield seat.

As for his stance on Chancellor Rachel Reeves‘s fiscal rules on balancing the books or whether immigrants should be allowed to access to welfare, Burnham himself has probably lost track of where he stands.

The man U-turns on his U-turns so often he must have vertigo.

It’s almost as if Burngam will say whatever he needs to in order to curry favour with whichever audience he is talking to in any given moment. Hardly confidence-inspiring, even for his admirers on the Left.

The country needs stability and consistency, a leader who sticks to their guns even if it proves unpopular in certain quarters.

Love him or hate him, Nigel Farage doesn’t keep U-turning every 5 minutes, and that is the kind of Prime Minister we need.

The UK – with all its myriad problems – requires leaders who want the best for the nation not simply to be liked in the moment.

The Burnham betrayal has seemingly begun, this time on the existential issue of immigration. As for his promises to stop the boats and boost defence, don’t bank on it!

Andy Burnham is a man with power on his mind and he will say whatever is necessary to get it! Scared of Reform. Scared of honesty. If we thought Starmer was a problem, we best get ready for an even bigger nightmare.
