Sadly, stray cats, especially mother cats with their babies, face many dangers outdoors. Just like that, this furry family was found trapped, tangled in the fence.
Fortunately, the cat and her babies were discovered just in time, and the Brooklyn animal organization wasted no time in helping them.
Brooklyn Animal Action received an urgent call about a mama cat and her kittens stuck behind the fence, where she had given birth.
Having no time to waste, they immediately embarked on a rescue mission. Upon arriving at the location, they witnessed a heart-wrenching sight.
The newborn kittens were all tangled in the fence. The rescuers had to carefully cut the fence to free them and ensure their safety.
Susie, the foster carer, explained in an interview that they first had to get the mother cat, but she was too scared to approach them. The rescuers had to cut additional holes in the fence and grab the kittens, one by one.
After rescuing the kittens, the rescuers continued luring the mother cat until they finally succeeded. Once the whole furry family was in one place, the rescuers came up with a perfect idea to keep the kittens warm.
They used a Popeyes box, the only thing they had at the time, and placed the newborn kittens inside so they could stay warm.
Once rescued, the whole family arrived at Susie’s place, where she continued providing them with necessary care. Fortunately, the mother cat turned out to be extremely friendly, making the whole mission a lot easier.
Despite taking great care of her kittens, they needed supplemental feeding due to the harsh conditions they had endured. However, they weren’t the only ones needing extra help.
The mother cat also required medical attention for a severe cold, but never ceased to care for her kittens or show her gentle nature.
Thanks to Susie’s devoted care, mama cat’s condition quickly improved. She said:
“After a while, she got better, so it was really nice that I was the one being able to care for her, because she really deserves it.”
Four weeks after the dramatic rescue, the whole feline family was doing better than expected. Mama cat proudly watched her kittens playing and discovering their surroundings.
However, one thing remained as their favorite – it was the same Popeyes box they were placed in after the rescue. Susie added:
“Whether it’s climbing into it, whether it’s chasing each other through it, they absolutely still love playing with it.”
Susie is delighted with the kittens’ progress, and she’s confident they’ll make perfect companions to any family. Still, she plans on putting them up for adoption in pairs, as they’re all extremely bonded.
On the other hand, mama cat named Olive Oyl will also be looking for a new home soon. Despite being an adult, one-eyed cat, Susie hopes she’ll also find her happiness because, after everything she has been through, she truly deserves it.
