Angela Rayner’s bloodthirsty revenge mission is almost complete – and now we’ll all pay
Angela Rayner only popped up briefly in the Peter Mandelson files. Don’t let that fool you.

Yesterday, thousands of documents, WhatsApp messages and messages linked to Lord Peter Mandelson’s appointment as US ambassador finally saw the light of day. Despite large chunks being plastered in Tippex, what remained exposed a wretched government rotting from within. The files were released following revelations about Mandelson’s ties to paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein. And every page dripped with intra-party poison and backstabbing.
Much of the subsequent outrage centred on cabinet minister Pat McFadden’s astonishing admission that Labour MPs only ever want to discuss one thing, how to raise benefits and who to fleece to fund them. His exchanges with Mandelson laid bare the mindset at the heart of Keir Starmer’s government. Tax, spend, punish, repeat. It was exactly the same under former New Labour chanceller and then PM Gordon Brown. Which is why a departing Brown minister famously left behind the flippant note declaring: “There is no money left.”
With so much filth and bile spilling out, it’s easy to overlook Angela Rayner. That’s not a sentence I write very often. But Rayner did merit one mention and as always with her, it was an absolute shocker.
Angela Rayner backs PM but makes clear Labour needs change
Red Ange is a natural born ticking timebomb. So much so that even the Prince of Darkness himself, Lord Mandelson, is awed at her destructive powers. We now know that she’s been working hard behind the scenes to blow up Keir Starmer’s government, in cahoots with ex-PM Gordon Brown.
Mandelson described Rayner as “an instrument of destabilisation” against Starmer. He also claimed Gordon Brown “has it in” for both Starmer and chancellor Rachel Reeves. Which shouldn’t surprise us. Brown is a walking grudge. And he picked exactly the right weapon in Angela Rayner. According to Mandelson, Brown “doesn’t seriously believe Angela is an alternative” for PM. No matter. It’s her destructive powers he cherishes. She wants Starmer’s blood.
Rayner destabilises everything she touches. Alongside Reeves, she’s helped wreck the jobs market through her trade union-friendly Employment Rights Bill, which has terrified employers into freezing recruitment. She’s also blown up the rental market through her hard-left Renters’ Rights Act. Landlords have fled en masse, often after evicting the very tenants that Rayner was trying to help. Now she appears hellbent on evicting Starmer too.
On the very day Rayner resigned, I predicted she’d back to wreak vengeance on Starmer. And now her work is almost complete. She’s working hard behind the scenes to get Andy Burnham into Westminster and thence to Number 10. No doubt she expects a hefty reward once he gets there. And no doubt she’ll get it.
Burnham should tread carefully though. At the first sign of trouble, there’s every chance she’ll turn her destabilising instincts against him too. It’s what she does.
Until then, the country will feel the full force of Rayner’s unrivalled powers of destruction. If you thought things are bad today, just wait until Red Ange is free to wreak her vengeance on the rest of us.
