Nigel Farage has called for a General Election after Sir Keir Starmer‘s resignation. The Reform UK leader insisted the country needs “real change” and “not another washed-up has-been shoved into place”.
Mr Farage’s intervention came shortly after the Prime Minister announced his resignation in a speech outside 10 Downing Street. The Clacton MP said: “I’ve had enough of waiting around.

“Britain needs change – real change, not another washed-up has-been shoved into place by the uniparty.
“If Labour thinks it can shove another professional politician into No 10, it has another thing coming. Reform is ready for an election, and we are ready to deliver radical change.”
It comes as Reform has consistently led national opinion polls and trounced Labour in May’s local elections.
However, there is no requirement for a General Election to be held if the PM changes.
The Conservatives and Labour have both previously toppled leaders while in power without going to the country.
Speaking outside No 10 this morning, Sir Keir announced he will resign as Prime Minister less than two years after coming to power.
He said his party had asked “whether I am best placed to lead us into the next General Election”.
He added: “I have heard the answer of my parliamentary party to that question, and I accept that answer with good grace.”
Defending his record, he pledged to give his successor “my full and unequivocal support, knowing that they will inherit a Britain that is far stronger and fairer than the one I inherited two years ago”.
Sir Keir’s resignation paves the way for frontrunner Andy Burnham to replace him after he won the crunch Makerfield by-election last week.
