Parliament is in absolute CHAOS! 🏛️🔥 Opposition Leader Kemi Badenoch just launched a brutal attack on an EMPTY seat as PM Keir Starmer fled the emergency debate!

The UK House of Commons has witnessed an emergency and highly tense debate over government accountability in the appointment of Peter Mandelson as the United Kingdom’s Ambassador to the United States. Prime Minister Keir Starmer was absent from the session, leaving his Cabinet to face intense criticism and public outrage from MPs, particularly Opposition Leader Kemi Badenoch.

Allegations of Ignoring Serious Security Warnings

In her opening remarks, Badenoch accused Prime Minister Starmer of having “personally decided to appoint a known and serious national security risk to one of our most sensitive diplomatic posts.” She argued that Mandelson not only had publicly known ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, but also maintained “red-flag” connections with both the Kremlin and China. Badenoch further claimed that Mandelson retained interests in Sistema, a Russian defence-linked company associated with President Vladimir Putin, even after Russia’s annexation of Crimea.

The Opposition Leader also highlighted claims that Starmer ignored written warnings from then-Cabinet Secretary Lord Case, who stressed that mandatory security vetting should have been completed before the appointment proceeded. She questioned the level of risk posed to the UK–US alliance if classified intelligence were to be accessed by an individual with unresolved security concerns.

Downing Street Pressure and Breakdown of Procedure

Much of the debate centred on the explosive testimony earlier in the day by former Foreign Office Permanent Secretary Sir Olly Robbins. Based on his evidence, Badenoch accused Number 10 Downing Street of applying “continuous pressure” on the Foreign Office to push through Mandelson’s appointment, showing “disregard for proper vetting procedures.” Robbins reportedly stated that blocking Mandelson at that stage would have been “extremely difficult” and potentially damaging to diplomatic relations.

Badenoch also revealed claims that Mandelson was granted access to highly sensitive intelligence briefings on a “case-by-case basis” before security vetting had even begun. Beyond Mandelson, she alleged that Number 10 had also requested a covert plan to appoint Matthew Doyle—then Downing Street Communications Director, later suspended—as an ambassador without informing the Foreign Secretary.

Crisis of Trust and Calls for Resignation

The Prime Minister’s absence from the emergency session was described by the Opposition as an act of evasion. Badenoch accused Starmer of using other ministers as “human shields” and repeatedly “throwing senior officials under the bus,” including Sue Gray, Matthew Doyle, Morgan McSweeney, Chris Wormald, and Olly Robbins, in an effort to deflect responsibility for poor judgement.

She cited former Cabinet Secretary Lord O’Donnell, who warned that the Prime Minister’s dismissals had created “one of the worst crises in modern relations between ministers and the civil service,” costing taxpayers over £1.5 million in compensation payments.

Concluding her speech, Badenoch referenced Starmer’s own 2022 statement that “if a Prime Minister lies to Parliament, they must resign.” She declared that the Prime Minister had failed in his fundamental duty to protect national security and called for a vote of no confidence, stating: “The Prime Minister is no longer fit to hold office… it is time for him to go.”
