The House of Commons was stunned into absolute silence today! 😱 Suspended Labour MP Karl Turner launched a deeply emotional, tear-jerking attack directly at PM Keir Starmer, exposing a ruthless, dark-arts operation orchestrated straight from Number 10.
A deeply personal and tense confrontation unfolded during Prime Minister’s Questions today when suspended Labour MP Karl Turner directly challenged Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Turner accused Number 10 officials of orchestrating a smear campaign regarding his mental health after he opposed a controversial government policy on single-judge trials. Starmer responded by condemning any smears related to mental health and vowing to ensure such behavior is not tolerated.

THE CONFRONTATION IN THE COMMONS The brief but highly charged exchange highlighted internal disciplinary friction within the Labour Party and the sensitive issue of mental health in political discourse.
Karl Turner addressed the Prime Minister directly, pointing to a perceived hypocrisy in Starmer’s legal and political history. “From 1997, the Prime Minister campaigned to scrap single-judge trials in Northern Ireland. Yet, when I opposed his government’s plan to bring in single-judge trials in England and Wales, I received hostile briefings and smears about my mental health from the lads in Number 10 Downing Street,” Turner alleged to the House .
Turner noted that the Chief Whip was shaking his head, but insisted that the leadership was aware of the briefings .
A PERSONAL TRAGEDY HIGHLIGHTED The confrontation took a deeply personal turn as Turner invoked a family tragedy to underscore the gravity of the alleged smears.
Turner reminded the Prime Minister that his nephew, Matty, a young criminal lawyer, had taken his own life due to work-related stress. He then challenged Starmer directly on the timing and hypocrisy of the alleged briefings: “So, during Mental Health Awareness Week, while ministers spoke with compassion about health and well-being, did the Prime Minister reflect on those hostile, discriminatory briefings which he knew about and he allowed to happen?” .
STARMER’S RESPONSE Prime Minister Keir Starmer responded with a measured tone, acknowledging the tragic loss in Turner’s family.
“He has told me previously about Matty and the impact that that had on him… and I totally understand that,” Starmer stated .
Starmer firmly denied that such tactics were acceptable within his administration. “I want to be absolutely clear that nobody should be smeared in relation to mental health. Nobody, on any issue, whatever they may argue on any other issue. Nobody,” the Prime Minister declared .
He concluded the brief exchange by stating, “I will do everything I can to make sure that that is the position,” effectively rejecting Turner’s claim that he had “allowed” the briefings to happen, while condemning the practice outright .
The incident throws a sharp spotlight on the intense internal pressures within the governing party and the severe personal toll of political infighting.
