Sir Keir Starmer is struggling to hold on as Prime Minister as pressure grows from within his own party, with a raft of MPs urging him to step aside. Last week, over 1,500 Labour councillors lost their positions in a bloodbath of elections. The Labour Party also lost control of the Senedd for the first time in history.
Now 55 Labour MPs have urged the Prime Minister to quit, with 10 calling for him to resign as Labour leader in the last 24 hours. Catherine West, a Labour backbencher, has demanded the Prime Minister step aside, threatening to launch her own leadership challenge if a Cabinet minister doesn’t beat her to it. Even powerful Starmer ally Josh Simons MP has made the call.
